DivaDebbi's 2017 SAG Awards Red Carpet Report Card

Oh my.  I can honestly say I have never seen so many awful looking dresses at one time, for any given awards show. My snark meter was in overdrive, as I viewed the arrivals.  I realized there would be no DivaDebbi Flips and Flops, just Flops.

Soooooo disappointed.  I am always rooting for gorgeous, even more so now, as I look for inspiration in buying for our store Mary Jane Denzer.  As such, I am only going to list the one look that looked both chic and fresh and keep the dozen plus, misses to myself.

Trends? Velvet, bare breasts visible under lace, white, pink, matte dark lips and minimal jewelry.

After the last 7 days, I don't have the heart for even a whiff of snark...maybe it's time to abandon it altogether.

Peace out Lovelies...

AAFPRS Presents Rising Trends in Facial Plastic Surgery

My friends at Melissa Kelz PR, represent the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. I'm always curious and happy to receive their annual report on facial plastic surgery trends.  I think it's fascinating and the growth trends and demographics change every year.

The top trend that emerged was the youth boom, with 20 and 30 year olds seeking injectables as a means of "prevention". I'm not sure if that is a guise on the part of millenials, or if the confluence of pore less, flawless, photo shopped images they are bombarded with are making them feel pressured to be perfect.

Wowza!  Let's hope what ever they are doing really is preventative, because if they can't cope with natural aging in their 20's, I can't imagine what they will be doing to their faces in their 40's and 50's...

What a world!  I present their report, in it's entirety:

AAFPRS ANNUAL SURVEY Unveils RISING TRENDS IN FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY

Millennials & Injectables Are Shaping The Future Of Aesthetics

WASHINGTON, DC, - January 26, 2017 – Today, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), the world’s largest association of facial plastic surgeons, announces the outcomes of its annual survey, which explores the top trends in facial plastic surgery over the past year and shares predictions for what’s to come.

This year’s member survey reveals that combination therapies are king. In 2016, 66 percent of facial plastic surgeons reported combined non-surgical procedures in the same patient as the top trend in their practice.

The availability of more advanced and less invasive technologies is making age an arbitrary number. Time has become a more important commodity than money when it comes to staying young and looking good. In the era of insta-everything, patients want to get the most out of every visit to the office.

MULTITASKING & MAINTAINANCE
“It’s an exciting time for facial plastic surgery, with more and more non-invasive therapies becoming available to us,” says Dr. Fred G. Fedok, president of the AAFPRS. “By combining injectables, lasers, ultrasound and radiofrequency, we are able to offer highly individualized therapies to a much wider range of patients. We can also use these non-invasive options to enhance surgical results and speed recovery time for optimal outcomes.”

Cosmetic patients want a more youthful appearance without spending too much or experiencing post-procedure downtime. They need to get back to their overscheduled lives quickly without the telltale signs of having had anything done. Whether its fillers plus neurotoxins to smooth wrinkles or energy-based treatments to lift sagging skin, patients today are all about multitasking and maintenance to slow down the hands of time. “Patients want to look good for their age for as long as possible, and we now have the tools to provide visible lasting results with and without surgery,” says Dr. Fedok.

THE POWER OF PREJUVENATION
In our youth-obsessed culture, it is all about slowing down the clock. The number of patients under 30 seeking cosmetic tweaks continues to grow. Fifty one percent of AAFPRS members agree that more patients now emphasize early maintenance, with increasing numbers of men and women in their 20s and 30s opting for preventative measures to forestall bigger procedures and surgery. This emerging segment uses advanced skincare, practices sun prevention, and starts with facial injectables before they turn the big 3-0. In fact, more than half (56 percent) of facial plastic surgeons saw an increase in 2016 in cosmetic surgery or injectables with patients under age 30.

“The focus has shifted from correction to prevention. Even before the first signs of sagging, lines or volume loss, we are seeing patients adamant about stalling the aging process,” Dr. Fedok adds.

Nearly all AAFPRS members (99 percent) agree that celebrity influence still plays a big role. Consumers are constantly bombarded with images of ageless stars, and want access to that fountain of youth.

TotalBeauty's 11 Highest Rated Anti-Aging Products

TotalBeauty  is a site I browse daily.  I like there editors and their articles. When they do a round-up, the stats are derived by tallying the product ratings, submitted by devoted readers. That's a win.

There was no way I was passing up what readers rated their 11 best anti-aging products.  Naturally, there were some pricey picks in the mix.  And naturally, I perused them all, hoping to find some beauty bargains.

I found three, two great serums and the Olay product above, that acts as both a moisturizer and primer and it came in at #2.  Yup. For $25.99, I will run out to buy it.

Do take a look at the total TotalBeauty Link to see all of their highest rated anti-aging products.  At least if your splurging, you can do so with confidence.

One to Skip; Physician's Formula Argan Wear Bronzer

Physician's Formula  Argan Wear Bronzer

I am officially, DEVASTATED.  My long term DivaDebbi Holy Grail Bronzer,
Stila's One Step Bronze has been relegated to the beauty graveyard.

My antennae was raised when I was unable to purchase it at retail, with Stila's other One-Step products.Covertly, they do have a similar looking product called One -Step Illuminate. It appears bronze in hue and I nearly purchased it.  My friend Jane ordered it twice, before realizing this was no mistake... One-Step Bronze is officially MIA.   I did find one on Amazon, that hails from Australia and could be mine for a 30% up tick. No thanks. Beauty Graveyard websites and Ebay have also proved futile.

OK, so what is it about Stila One- Step Bronze that made it so irresistible?  I adored the light mousse like formula, that, once applied with a fluffy brush, added a lit from within, bronze glow, that never stuck in fine lines and pores, unlike powder bronzers.

DivaDebbi's 2017 Golden Globe's Report Card

Ok Lovelies, let's get started, shall we???

Well, I'm one for two...Jimmy Fallon was not as I predicted, a natural. He is so likable and I don't think I was the only one really rooting for his success, but his performance as host, save for the opening La La Land tribute, fell short.

Ms. Streep,  who was both nominated for her performance in Florence Foster Jenkins and the recipient of the Cecile B. DeMille  Lifetime Achievement Award, was however, horribly attired and coiffed.  Bam.  No matter what your politics, I found her acceptance speech, deriding President Elect Trump, to be completely out of place and found it uncomfortable to watch.

Moving on to fashion.  I loved that the stars really pulled out the stops for the GG's, traditionally a bit lower key than the  Oscar's.  I'm drooling in anticipation of what's in store for us on February 26th.

Trends included:
Canary yellow, which in my estimation is the  single hardest shade for a woman to pull off successfully, but was managed well by Viola Davis and Natalie Portman,

Pink- divine on Lily Collins, and Zoe Saldana, cloying and overly sweet on Felicity Jones and Carrie Underwood.

Metallics- lovely on Emma Stone, Naomi Harris, Priyanka Chopra and Ruth Negga, (though I have no clue who she is.)

Deep plunging necklines, impeccably worn on Kristen Bell, Emma Stone (always trend savvy and nailing two of the big ones),  and Mandy Moore, who stunned in a navy Naeem Khaan.

Black and White- horrible on Naomi Campbell, Sophie Turner, Jessica Biel and Heidi Klum.

White- Drew Barrymore, Tracee Ellis Ross, Thandie Newton and Sarah Jessica Parker in Vera Wang. (Just. Say. No.)

Interestingly, some of my A List designers, also ended up on the F List;
Zuhair Murad, Gucci and Louis Vuitton.   Go figure!!!

The A+ Team
Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham
Spectacular!!!

Emma Stone in Valentino
Perfect on every level, hair makeup accessories dress.
Oh! And congrats!  Isn't she adorable???

Naomi Harris in Armani Prive
Stunning.

Mandy Moore in Naeem Khan
(well done, again. She made my last A List too)

Viola Davis in Michael Kors
(I thought she was introducing Mother Theresa
when she was presenting the Cecille B. DeMille award)

Elsa Pataky Zuhair Murad
Dee-Vine!!!

Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad
Regal.

Zoe Saldana in Gucci
Fresh and pretty!

Ruth Negga in Louis Vuitton
Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren
(This chick understands the Red Carpet)

Brie Larsen in Rodarte

Natalie Portman pregnant and resplendent in Prada

Who fell flat for me?

Gearing Up For The 2017 Golden Globes...

Jimmy Fallon
Host of the 2017 Golden Globe Awards
8 pm on NBC

I am so looking forward to tonight's 2017 Golden Globes and of course the Red Carpet spectacle.  Longtime DivaDebbi readers know I always follow up the GG's, Oscar's and Emmy's with a, "report card of my loves and loathes" on the Red Carpet, (and nicely, my Lovelies look forward to reading them :)

I think the GG's are the most fun to watch of the three; firstly, it combines film and television, so it's one big lovefest among the stars and it's nice to see them relaxed, drinking and eating with friends and cast mates.  How terrific is it, that the sour Ricky Gervais got the boot and is being replaced by the hilarious, Jimmy Fallon??? I predict he'll be a huge success and will encore next year.

Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask

Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask
$7.99 at drugstores nationwide

I'll admit it...when it comes to masks, I'm a lazy slug.  Once I've gone through all the toil of removing every drop of makeup, pretty much, I'm done.  I'm just not motivated to then apply a mask, wait 20 minutes and then start the rinse cycle again, no matter what the promised benefits are.

Recently, my friends at Tractenberg PR shared with me, that Charcoal Masks are one of Pinterest 100 emerging beauty trends for 2017.  Hmmm... yes, I'm sure they are... but wait!!! The they wanted to tell me about only requires ONE MINUTE to work.

One minute!!! Now, that, I can spare!

Here are the details:

In just one minute, this thermal mask warms to open pores, draws out and dissolves 2.5 times more dirt, oil, and surface toxins than a basic cleanser, and rinses them clean away with an invigorating cooling sensation without stripping the skin. Infused with natural charcoal, this breakthrough mask melts dirt and oil better than the leading competitive mask. So clean your pores from the dirt, oil and makeup of the past and clear the problem.

So yes please! Do send! I need this. I can commit to this. And for $7.99, we can all afford better skin in 60 seconds, all year long...

Happy New Year!!!

Happy, Healthy New Year Lovelies!!!

This was a challenging year for me. I literally have been counting down the moments to the fresh start of a new year. I am deeply and forever grateful to our son's surgeon Dr. Michael Borger and Cardiologist Dr. Gregg Rossner, as well as my own Doctors;  Roy and Andrew Ashikari and Dr. Andrew Salzberg, as I celebrated my 20 year breast cancer milestone.  I lost my beloved Mother Joan, but I'm ever grateful that she did not suffer and passed peacefully, knowing her children, loved her till the end of her days.

I am incredibly excited about the challenge of Co-Owning my business Mary Jane Denzer in White Plains, with my wonderful partner Anastasia Cucinella.  I love new beginnings and I'm very happy about this next chapter.

So may I suggest you too, dream big, let go of things you can't control, take good care of yourself and the ones you love, follow your instincts, be kind, and have a wonderful year ahead.

Thank you so much for being my loyal friends and readers through all these years.
The best is yet to come...
