J'adore J'adore

Not the perfume, by Dior, (I've never smelled it)...the mesmerizing commercial starring Charlize Theron.  It was first aired in 2007 during the Holiday Season.and smartly, it was not retired.  Charlize looks drop dead gorgeous, returning home from a night on the town.  She struts and strips, discarding all the artifice and armour...gown, shoes, jewels in heaps in her wake. What matters??? Not much, just her perfume...and whoever awaits in the boudoir.  Now that's hot.

The other kick???  The background vocals.   It sounds vaguely European,  Something I might even want to download onto my Ipod.  But who is singing?  Knock me over with Charlize's thong---It is none other than marvelous Marvin Gaye!!!  The song, entitled, "Funky Space Reincarnation,"  was recorded in 1978 and released in 1979, yet here it is in 2010 still sounding contemporary...Se magnifique!!!

I love that Dior has chosen to continue to run this ad.  It makes me pine for another Holiday favorite...Nicole Kidman's 2006 Chanel No. 5  ad, set to Debussey's Clair de Lune.  The "story" has everything:  beauty, mystery, love and loss...more a movie than an advertisement.  Brilliant and classic.  Like Chanel No. 5.

When the wheel ain't broke there is no need to reinvent it.  In the case of great ads, (few and  far between) just re-air

  1. I just saw this recently and was thinking the same thing. I'm also looking forward to seeing Sophia Coppola's new commercials with Natalie Portman for Dior - sure to be sensational!

  2. Oh that will surely be amazing! Love Sophia's eye and NP is a genius. Black Swan was devastating if you haven't seen it. A Tour de Force for Portman. Surely an Oscar nod is coming her way.
    Happy Holidays Q.!

  3. Hi Debbi,
Great dress on your profile pic with the bronze straps!

  4. Thank you Milkko! So nice to hear from you! It is a Robert Rodriquez dress. I wore it to the premiere and Sex and the City 2 after party. Quite a fun night!
Your lovely illustration still graces my blog.
Hope you have a wonderful Holiday.

  5. I LOVE that ad and the song! Agree 100% gorgeous elegant fashion does not go out of style.

Quintessance- Sophia Coppola is doing a Dior ad with Natalie Portman? *dies* this will be stunning.
