Dressing For Keeps: Fashion Collectibles

I am incredibly excited to have written my first Style & Shop article for WAG Magazine. If you live in N.Y. or CT. and don't know WAG, it' a fabulous monthly lifestyle magazine.

The WAG, "delivers unexpected in exciting people profiles, food, fashion, beauty, art, travel, entertainment and more. With its irresistible glimpse into high-end living, this glossy, oversized coffee-table book has become a must read among the discerning population."

"The publication is always building fresh content, driven by local movers and shakers who create and influence culture; some even worldwide."

I am honored to be a contributor.

The theme of April issue was a beautiful look into how history resonates in art, architecture, interiors and fashion and creates timeless value.  I was asked to weigh in on which fashion items may have vintage potential.  I hope you will enjoy it.

Review: Frownies Beautiful Eyes Bag (Part 1)

Frownies Eye Gel Patches $29.95
Are there any beauty products that you have always been curious about, but never got around to trying?  Not surprisingly, I have several...

Case in point?   Today I received a package of Frownies, a pioneering company in women's anti-aging beauty, via my friends at BeautyStat.  It's save to say they have been on my radar for a couple of decades, (since I started using my first night cream at age 12).  Surely, you have heard of them too?  You know, those winged paper strips that adhere to your face to keep you from frowning in your sleep.  I have wanted to try them For-evah.

I received a 5 piece Spa Kit, intended for use especially around the eyes. It may take me a few days to get the hang of things and to work through the products, so for today, I will just present an introduction to Frownies 101.  I think this fourth generation beauty business, dedicated to reducing visible signs of aging is fascinating!

Here is an abridged version of the history of Frownies:

B&P Company Since 1889
Margaret Kroesen Inventor of Frownies-Frownies were created in 1889 after Margaret Kroesen discovered that her daughter Alice, a concert pianist, had developed unsightly wrinkles and frown lines. With a desire to maintain her youthful beauty and stage presence, Mrs. Kroesen created Wrinkle Eradicators (as they were first called) by employing the basic principle of fitness to the muscles of the face. At the time, there was no thought of producing them for anyone else but herself and her daughter. But Alice, after using her mother's amazing invention, was a living testimony, and it became clear that women and men everywhere could benefit from these Wrinkle Eradicators.

Every month makeup artist Perc Westmore (founder of The House of Westmore) sent a box of mail from women and men requesting help in eliminating wrinkle and frown lines. Westmore was instrumental in promoting Frowines to the entertainment industry and those influenced by it. Mrs. Kroesen and her granddaughter Margaret personally answered the hundreds of letters they received from all over the world.

Alice Laumer, Mrs. Kroesen's daughter, joined the business to help with the growing sales. After Alice's death, Mrs. Kroesen remained at the helm of the company until her own passing in 1962.

Margaret Wright
Continuing the legacy following her mother and grandmother in business, Margaret Wright (named after her grandmother) redesigned and updated the packaging for Frownies, never altering the formula which had proven so effective.

Frownies remained, at the time, a relatively well-kept beauty secret between Broadway and Hollywood stars and makeup artists. Olivia de Havilland ordered Frownies, and had them sent to her at hotels all over the world. Gloria Swanson wore them in Sunset Boulevard, one of the greatest movies about Hollywood ever made. And the infamous Kennedy women wrote letters to B & P Company ordering Frownies.

Now, more than a century since they were created, Mrs. Wright still oversees the operations of the company, but her daughter-in-law, Kathy Wright, is now taking her turn as the fourth generation woman helping preserve the faces of women and men everywhere.

Kathy Wright and Frownies Today
Naturopath, Nutritional Consultant, Author and Wellness Educator Kathy Wright is acting CEO/General Manager of B & P Company. A fourth generation women to run this family owned anti-aging product line FROWNIES. Kathy brings a commitment to well being for every customer. Frownies box has changed, but the 120 year-old patch technology remains intact while the FROWNIES line has extended into natural bio-available skin treatments and a manual to instruct and inform women about beauty and wellness from the inside out.

Frownies Facial Pads reshape the muscle using nothing toxic. "Frownies are strictly mechanical", says Kathy, a technology that was before its time and still effective today. And now, she has joined forces with some of the most renowned and sought after experts in the areas of product development and skin cancer research for one very specific purpose - to create the first products that you can trust to work with your skin, giving you healthy, younger looking skin. Healthy, younger-looking skin starts with the immune system.

Frownies has added Immune Perféct and Immune Shield to its Skin Treatment line. Immune Perféct and Immune Shield are bio-available treatments that contain the newest technology to help prevent skin wrinkling and fight the conditions leading to skin cancer.

Under Eye Gel Patches are the most recent addition used to address under eye and eye lid creping and loss of circulation leading to fine lines and dark circles.

Wont this be even more fascinating if they actually work?  Why don't you enter BeautyStat's giveaway contest and see

DivaDebbi's Suggestions for Closet Cleaning;The Bi-annual Change

Please tell me I am not alone in having an overwhelming sense of dread I have about having to switch  my closet over from fall/winter to spring/summer.  Ugggh!

It's a two pronged problem.  First I have to look at all the things that are in my current closet that I didn't wear this winter and then I am going to look at all the things in my summer closet that I didn't wear last summer, but for some inexplicable reason, held onto anyway.

Why is it so difficult to purge?  As a former Personal Shopper,  and now Co-Owner of Mary Jane Denzer in White Plains, I will sometimes visit clients closets to help them edit them.  No doubt about it, it's a lot easier to tell someone else, "it's got to go", then self impose the same stringent guidelines.

It's much less painful to pitch trendy, less expensive items, purchased knowing they have limited shelf life, then designer duds that simply no longer feel current. For sure, the latter are the ones that ping pong back and forth, season after season.

Here are my best suggestions for getting the job done:

Revlon COLORBURST Lip Butter: The best keeps getting better

Revlon Lip Butters
I cannot remember ever being this taken with a $10 lipstick. I have taken to stockpiling them.  Even better, Revlon has doubled the amount of shades COLORBURST Lip Butter shades now available.

I was hoping to find a shade that would be a bit brighter than the Pink Truffle and Sugar Plum I alternated between this winter. I purchased Berry Smoothie yesterday on a CVS run.  I was so pleased with this bright but not too bright pink, that in a pique of paranoia, I went back today to purchase another...you never know when a spare will come in handy and they tend to sell out quickly.

Review: Abbey St. Clare's Green Tea Scruffing Milk Cleanser

Abbey St. Clare
Green Tea Scruffing Milk Cleanser
$26.50  6.7 Fl. oz.

From time time, I hear from smaller, esoteric skincare companies.  Often, their products are organic and are loaded with ingredients that sound good enough to eat.  I had never heard of Abbey St. Clare but when they asked me if I would review their website and see if there was something I would like to sample for review, my curiosity was piqued.

I was surprised to see a more full service website than I envisioned.  Abbey St. Clare dedicates itself to skin wellness and extends that philosophy to mineral based makeup, hair care and aromatic oils and elixirs, all affordably priced.

I am always interested in new facial cleansers and I do tend to prefer ones that exfoliate.  When I spotted Green Tea Scruffing Milk Cleanser, and saw if contained my faves, glycolic and lactic acids, I didn't have to look any further.  Here is how it is described:
