Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals

Amy Adam's NOT in Tom Ford, in Tom Ford's
noir thriller Nocturnal Animals

A funny thing happened on the way to see Manchester by the Sea...My husband and I were astonished to see a line a block long.  This is not a common suburban experience, in fact, I have no memory of ever having seen this outside of NYC.

Unfortunately, it was sold out.  (*Unfortunately, we made a trip back to see it.
This is singly, the most over hyped film of the year. Bleak, meandering and depressing.  I'm not familiar with Casey Affleck's work, but this laconic, dull performance is NOT Oscar worthy.  Do skip this...)

Fortunately, since it was a small theatre, that tends to book smaller films for thinking people; our fallback was the critically acclaimed Loving or Tom Ford's stylish, neo noir thriller Nocturnal Animals.

Given the choice, how could I resist see Ford's new film? Inevitably, no matter what the plot, there would be gorgeous interiors, attractive people and stylish clothing, beautifully worn. (A stunning contrast to the film's opening scenes.)

It is all that, and more, simultaneously, a thriller and a tale of how empty all of those expensive trappings can be, if loveless.

Interestingly, Ford, made the deliberate choice not to feature his own clothes in the film, though the polished, sleek aesthetic of designs by Chanel, Gucci, Dior, Miu Miu, Celine and Marc Jacobs, could easily be mistaken for Ford's own.

Ford deliberately did not want the film to appear as an advertorial for his brand, choosing to keep his creative and intellectual talents as Designer and Director, separate.

Smart.

Of course that doesn't rule out the stylish cast, which includes Amy Adams, , Isla Fisher, Ellie Bamber (clearly Ford loves his red heads; Julianne Moore also starred in his first film A Single Man) and Laura Linney from appearing in Ford's clothes at the Premiers for Nocturnal Animals.

It's a good film, that like what the good ones do, keeps you thinking about it, long after you have left the theatre.  In addition to Manchester by the Sea and Loving to look forward to,  there is also Jackie, starring the magnificent Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy, they day after her husband's assassination.

After a dearth of good films, it's a pleasure to have something to look forward to this holiday season. Today's treat?  The Greenwich Ballet Academy's production of the Nutcracker at the White Plains City Center.  I'm glad we purchased tickets for it ahead of time, since it is completely sold out.

Note to self...buy those movie tix ahead of time too.  Seems I'm not the only one starved not just for eye candy and popcorn, but brain candy too...

Rosie Rocks the Jumpsuit

Rosie Rocks the Jumpsuit

Rosie Rocks the Jumpsuit by divadebbi

For me, the true measure of celebrity style is not what she wears on the Red Carpet, but what she looks like day in and day out, left to her own devices, sans stylists.

 'Steet Style".

Women like Olivia Palermo, Miranda Kerr, and Rosie Huntington-Whitely consistently look chic, effortless and completely confident in their choices, making the rest of us look like Ellie Mae Clampett, (if you don't know, don't ask or of course, Google).

I loved how Rosie cuffed this Gerard Darel jumpsuit and paired it with a fabulous baby George blue Giorgio Armani tote (since I do act as their Brand Ambassador at Richards.) Killer sandals, Miu Miu tortoise sunglasses...yup, she just rolled out of bed.

I'm utterly gob smacked by these creatures.  Ladies, I bow to thee...

Send Me to New York Fashion Week

Send Me to New York Fashion Week

Send Me to New York Fashion Week by divadebbi

Besides being my  playground for creating the fashion sets that I often post on my blog, Polyvore is also one of the worlds largest retail fashion websites.

Fashion Week Spring 2014 is just a few weeks away, but already I'm starting to plan what I will be wearing.  Everything should appear effortless, but like countless other Fashionistas, it's  carefully choreographed dance.

Polyvore is running a contest to be selected to represent them at Fashion Week.  FW is not for sissies, so I'm hoping my being seasoned at attending and reporting on it , will work to my advantage.

Fingers crossed please...

My entry above highlights 'Pastels', a strong Fall Trend from many of the European houses.  Pale pinks, peaches and blues were often shown as outerwear.

I like them best paired back to black, navy and grey, as a pop of color.  Keeping the lines and the accessories crisp and linear will read chic instead of sweet.

I hate sweet...

Top Sets and Top Stories on Polyvore January 26th, 2013

Aqua, Gold and Bronze

It is always a nice feeling to be chosen as at "Top Set" by the Polvyore Editorial team.  I am so glad they like this set, because it was fun to create and brought me good cheer just to be thinking ahead to Spring.

Polyvore also creates a "Top Trends" page, which I always review. The amazing Fashionista's from all over the world, who create sets, definitely have their finger on the pulse of fashion.  As a result, my eye is sharpened and I see trends long before they hit the runway or street.  I adore this amazing medium and I am grateful that it has allowed me to express my creativity with my hands, where paintbrushes and crayons always failed.

Here is a link to "Spear a Mint Dress"  , a trend they sited and included this set in.

Today I received an email from a dear Blogger friend, Charleston Girl from Best Things in Beauty, one of my daily reads.  In addition to having a penchant for only the finest, CG, as I call her is a great writer, photographer and technical whiz.  She has helped me out of many a glitch.

She wrote me to tell me how much she liked my Polyvore sets and for advice on how to add them to her Blog.  It was delightful to have the shoe on the other foot for a change!

CG is a lady of taste and talent, and I know soon I will be seeing her on Polyvore, where I look forward to seeing her creations. In the meanwhile, do visit her Blog for news on, well, The Best Things in Beauty.

Word to the wise...hide your credit cards.  And they say I'm trouble...
