Review: Rimmel London Insta Flawless

Rimmel London Insta Flawless
$7.99

When my friends at Tractenberg PR, told me about Insta Flawless, a product Rimmel London describes as an illuminating "skin tint", my curiosity was piqued.  With SPF 15, and the promise of all day hydration, I thought it would be an interesting product to try, as the dog days of summer will soon be upon us.

Insta Flawless comes in two shades; Light-Medium and Medium-Dark.  The Medium Dark works nicely, on my always a bit fake baked skin, but I'm sure others would prefer/need, the addition of a Dark shade.

Update: L'Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

L'Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara
$10 (in the Hinterlands, somewhere...)

Well Lovelies, I told you the Internet was blowing up over this  Too Faced Better Than Sex dupe by L'Oreal.  Glamour just reviewed it just reviewed it and there editor was pleased with her results.

I finally got to CVS and was initially flummoxed not to find it among, maybe twenty different L'Oreal Mascara offerings, (if men wore mascara daily, there would be two choices from one product; waterproof and non-waterproof. Period.)

Then my brain cells kicked up a notch and went to the front of the store where the newest launches live... Voila!

I got lucky. There were only two left; one Black and the other Blackest Black. Guess which one I chose???? Riiiiiight.

L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara--Is this the one???

L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara
$9.99 (ish)

Has it finally arrived??? My drugstore mascara Holy Grail??? Please, let it be so...

The Internet is blowing up over this Too Faced Better Than Sex dupe, offered by L'Oreal, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.  Bloggers as well as Vlogger's are singing it's praises for its ability to provide gorgeous length and volume, for a fraction of the price of the big guns.

One to Skip! Charlotte Tilbury Overnight Bronze & Glow Mask

Charlotte Tilbury Overnight Bronze and Glow Mask
Gulp...$55

Oh my...how did I get suckered into this purchase???  No one to blame except Moi, who foolishly believed in the fairy tale of going to bed pasty and waking up looking like I spent a week at a spa in St. Bart's.

Granted, said transformation can take between one and three nights, but I'm here to tell you, on night four (and today, day one), I've got nada.  Additionally, there is a minuscule amount of product in this pretty tube.

Soooooo disappointing!!!

Combating Dark Circles

NYX Dark Circle Concealer
about $6.99

Well, yuk...I've always been lucky enough not to have an issue with dark circles. I'm a good sleeper and I'm not feeling particularly tired.  Usually just a swipe of any concealer would do the trick and a few days of vacation eliminated the need for using it at all.

Sadly, my luck seems to have run out!

Naturally, I needed a quick fix and fortunately, I found a simple two step solution. The first is a lucky, random find, the second, something I decided to order from Amazon, after reading a rave review on Makeup Alley.  Nicely, they are both inexpensive...Cheap and cheerful!

Yippee!

Happy Memorial Day! (Mary Jane Denzer is closed today)

Happy Start of Summer!

Sort of...Rain may be upon us, but why not kick back and relax anyway?

Most importantly, Memorial Day is a holiday to remember those who died, serving our country. We owe them our thanks for their sacrifices to keep us safe.  May those who choose to do that everyday, be protected and come home safely to their families who love and honor them.

Wishing you a Happy Memorial Day and summer ahead! Is there anything nicer than long light filled days???

xox,
DD

DivaDebbi's Best and Worst of Cannes Fashion 2017

Ok, Lovelies, I'm a bit behind, but still wanted to throw my 4 cents in on what I loved and what I loathed at Cannes this year.

Every Spring, stars, models and celebutantes make the glamorous trek to the Cannes International Film Festival.  Sprinkled over 12 days, films, of all genres, are previewed and judged.  And of course, so is the Red Carpet...

I like my Girls pretty and impeccable on the Red Carpet and for any event...  I think you can still push the fashion envelope without looking like a spectacle, don't you??? Beautiful fashion is what my partner Anastasia Cucinella and I always strive for, when buying for our store Mary Jane Denzer.

A few of my favorite picks were also later pans on the likes of Elle Fanning, Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Bella Hadid and Uma Thurman.  Go figure!  Take a peek...

3 Second Brow Eyebrow Stamp

3 Second Brow Eyebrow Stamp
$14.99 Bed Bath & Beyond

It was only a matter of time before Facebook figured out how to add ads of potential interest on our feeds.  About a month ago, I noticed that intermittently, advertisements for beauty products and gadgets would pop up in between photos of friends trips, birthday's and kids graduations.

Pretty much, they've got me...I find them irresistible not to open.  Hence, my discovery of 3 Second Brow Eyebrow Stamp.  Now this, I had to try...

New Beginnings!

Debra OShea and Anastasia Cucinella
Co-Owners Mary Jane Denzer
White Plains, NY

Hello my Lovelies!!!

I know it's been way too long since I've last posted.  As many of you know, in January of this year, my partner Anastasia Cucinella and I became the new owners of Mary Jane Denzer in White Plains.  It's been a very busy and exciting time!  Here is a link to pictures of our New Owner's Celebration, which was covered by The Fairfield County Look. It was a wonderful night, that we celebrated with clients, friends, designers and our vendor partners.

During this respite from blogging, I even surpassed 2,000,000 pageviews, but didn't have a chance to celebrate and thank you, my lovely, loyal readers, so I shall do so now. Thank you!!!

Graduation Style

Graduation Day

Congratulations!!!  Your pride and joy is a graduate!!!  All of their graduation milestones are of course, important, but some ceremonies, due to formality, length or venue require extra care, in deciding what to wear.

There are definite dont's and they all begin with with adverb "too"; anything too bright, too short, too low cut, too tight, or too boldly printed will be out of place and might even embarrass your grad. Ditto, high heels particularly if it will be a long day and grass to conquer.

IMO, this is a day to channel whatever your closest approximation of Kate Middleton is. The star of the day, is unquestionably, your child, so quiet, ladylike elegance is what is called for.

Paula Hian

Outdoor graduations in particular, can be tricky.  So much depends on weather, which can have us shivering one day and sweltering the next.  It's never a bad idea to have a something to add a bit of warmth, for too chilly air conditioning or a dip in temperatures.  I love Susan Bender's leather shrug which makes everything it's worn over look chicer.

The easiest  way to look completely polished is to simply wear a dress.  A knit, in particular, is a great choice...it will look effortless and comfortable, especially if a long day is on tap; ceremony to celebration.  A foot friendly shoe,  like a wedge or a sandal with a chunky heel are the perfect pairing.

Congratulations again. You've earned them!

St. Ives Coconut Oil Scrub

St. Ives Coconut Oil Scrub
$6.99...ish

I've been pondering trying a cleansing oil for awhile...my biggest fear was that it would leave an oily residue that would make me feel like I needed to wash my face.  Ummm...Isn't that what I just tried to do???

It turns out that I absolutely LOVE  St. Ives Coconut Oil Scrub.  A few things; there is something really wonderful about the beautiful glow that you can achieve from, essentially, massaging your face for several minutes. A dime size amount is all you need.  I will admit, that in the beginning, I did do a quick light lather with Cetaphil soap, because I am a little nutty about feeling like my skin is scrupulously clean at the end of the day. Now that I've adapted, I am happy enough with just using the oil scrub on its own, which emulsifies once water is added.

I also do like to use it best when I'm showering, since the coconut shell powder that acts as the exfoliant, is a bit gritty and needs a really good rinse.

DivaDebbi's Ultimate Guide to Seasonal Closet Cleaning

I have to laugh!  I noticed that an article I had written back in 2012, which was updated from one of my earliest posts on "closet cleaning" is having a grand resurgence.

I scoured it to see what was so sage about my advice, and if it needed any updating.  Honestly???  None that I can see.  Everything stands!

The Top 9 Spring Trends of 2017

Is it here yet??? I don't know about you, but I, for one am ready!  The best thing about the Fall/Winter seasons, is undoubtedly the clothes....Other than that, I'll take glossy green lawns, and long, light filled days over, salt and snow, any day.

As a buyer, for Mary Jane Denzer, the store I Co-Own with my  partner, Anastastia Cucinella, it is always fascinating to see how trends take shape for the season.  It's not by coincidence that similar looks emerge on the runways.  It starts with Pantone's Color Forecasts, which then get woven into prints and solids by the fabric mills, and finally, interpreted by each designers imagination.

Sometimes, trends are tricky, so I say, "know thyself"... Your clothes should make you feel beautiful and help you radiate confidence.  If a trend is waaay out of your comfort zone, skip it.  Go for the styles you love and that flatter your figure. You can always embrace a trend with the pop of a perfect accessory, if the full on look, feels like too much of a commitment.
