Emmy's 2010- The Post- Mortem

Well, DivaDebbi readers know by now, that  I live for the AA's. GG's and the Emmy's, now my pals at Fashism, (who just launched their i phone app today)  will too, as this post-mortem will be a featured guest  Blog, so check it out!!!  I was tweeting, scribbling  notes, saving pics on my lap top and oh yes, watching all the festivities last night.  Do we not all live for the RC disasters???  Just how does this happen we wonder every time...Designers from every nook and cranny of the planet submit their hopefuls and stylists edit, suggest and ultimately send their clients out on the RC, like sheep's to slaughter...this is my idea of heaven.  So who made it to the Pearly Gates and who needs to burn their frock (if it didn't already in Fashion Purgatory)???  Let's roll...
Goddesses-  Rose Byrne, (top pic)  in a white Gucci gown, with delicate banded, copper cut outs, a gorgeous, soft up do and great earrings.  Nina Dobrev, (bottom pic)  in a one shouldered, creamy Zuhair Murad gown, hair, jewels and makeup also gorgeously styled.  Julianna Margulies, with shiny wavy hair, that still look polished (not bed head), in a navy, (the  color of the night),  L'Wren Scott gown, that fit like a dream.  Jayma Mays (who is she btw)?, in a navy strapless Burberry.   Lastly,, the lovely Lea Michele. in a navy strapless chiffon Oscar de la Renta, worn with one of the few statement necklaces of the night, with young, natural hair and makeup.  She gets a frou frou pass for youthful exuberance.  These women stood out, because of one thing...they looked elegant and MODERNOh, I forgot to include Tina Fey's ponytail...loved that, (though her Oscar gown looked overwrought).   Overall, Strapless ruled, one shoulder followed. Navy, white, ivory and black were everywhere.  Softly swept up do's, undone hair, natural makeup and relatively minimal jewels, prevailed as trends.

Angels- Kyra Sedgewick in a strapless burgundy Monique L'Hulliere (though I could have done without the zinnia lip).  Eva Langoria Parker in a strapless, black (zzzzzzzzzzzz) Robert Rodriguez gown with an intricate skirt and train.  Jennifer Parker in an unnamed charcoal, one shouldered sequin gown.  Elizabeth Moss looked slim and elegant in a taupe, satin one shoulder Donna Karan gown.   Kelly Osbourne, (unrecognizable), in a chic, black (zzzzzzzzzz),  Tony Ward gown.  Claire Danes, (way too blonde), in a pretty, but predictable, ivory, strapless sparkler, from Armani Prive.  The hilarious Jane Lynch, cleaning up well  in a one shouldered eggplant taffeta gown, with beautiful makeup.  Kerri Russell,  looked sweet, modern and fresh faced in a coral  Jean-Louis Scherrer, (I just wish it fit).  Sophia Vergara who is drop dead gorgeous, and by default, improved her pale yellow Carolina Herrera gown just by putting it on.

Devils-  The worst of the night....Rita Wilson(above),  looking o*d and f*t, in a short white Prada dress with a chandelier, shower curtain overlay and matching  chandelier shoes, with a too tightly coiled top knot, that felt vaguely unicornesque. Why???  Newlywed Anna Paquin, with stunning hair and makeup, upstaged by a Matador's gown by Alexander McQueen.  Emily Deschanel in a fringed purple lampshade  by Max Azria Atlelier.  Do you think the always funny Kristen Wiig , may have been pulling our leg???  Surely, this black and white schmatta was found in her dead grandmother's attic and worn for laughs. Luscious Christina Hendricks looked like Barbie's older cousin in a sad looking, mauvey lavender Zac Posen...not buying the hype, sorry.   Lovely, January Jones in a bright, sapphire blue, strapless  Versace Atelier gown, with conical breast implants, circa Madonna's Gaultier get ups in the 90's.  This would have been amazing, if it were styled as a photo shoot in W....on the RC it just looked silly, but JJ likes pushing the fashion envelope and can certainly stand the heat in the kitchen or elsewhere.

OK Darlings,  I know I will get some heat over this myself, and I love and respect her just as much as you do,  BUT,  can someone please design some new pajamas for Betty White???  There, I said it, even though you thought it.... and you know where I'll probably end up going because of it.

Till next time...

DD

  3. Agree completely. I hated Anna Paquin's dress the most.

  4. I thought the shape of Christina Hendrick's dress was amazing on her. Like you, I'm not sure it was her best color but it is a change from the bright shades we usually see on her.
