The Black Out of 2018

Well, it was an interesting night, no one can deny that.  The politics absolutely trumped the fashion, which was the point, of course...But Lord, it made for a snoozy Red Carpet -just sayin.

The night no longer belonged to the "mani-cam" an embarrassment that will not be missed, though boy, I wish I knew who on earth, they were, "wearing"!!!

It was the night where woman had there say and in tandem and groups the solidarity and message loudly sounded was # Time's Up; sexual harassment and inequality, your days are numbered.

Brava!!!

DivaDebbi's 2017 Oscar Red Carpet Report Card

Well. Oh my and wholly -rap! How, exactly, the wrong envelope for Best Picture was given to poor Faye and Warren, who I thought were having a dual senior moment, we don't yet know. Price Waterhouse....You're FIRED.
Kudos to the producers of La La Land, who could not have been more gracious and congrats to the Moonlighting cast and crew on your win. Jimmy Kimmel was a mostly winning host, who navigated the evening well (true confessions I skipped out for a good 2 hours and heard there were some flops)  and ended it humbly.  I think he will get a second shot. For those of you just waking up, here's a nice recap of the final moments, courtesy of Vulture.

But, I can say unequivocally, this was the least exciting Red Carpet, in 89 years.  Seriously. Where was the fashion??? Where were the stars???  And why has it become a faux pas for an interviewer to ask the age old, Joan Rivers standard, "Who are you wearing"??? Since I don't know, nor is the information readily press available, many of my loves and loathes will not have designer attribution...in most cases, this will be a blessing...

The R.C. was trend light as well, beautifully cut simple black dresses, white, red and two beauties in gold and nude, worn by fashion A Listers Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman and a smattering of fringe.

Let's get started...shall we???  Because this blog, that sometimes takes two days to write and edit, should be up and complete by 10pm, just in time for Billions.

Moving on...

Disappointing? Viola Davis.  I'm fairly certain she is going home with another Oscar tonight and was a bit let down, particularly after her A List turn at the Golden Globes, in lemon, sequin, one shouldered Michael Kors. Comparatively,
this is too tame for the Oscars.

I haven't yet seen Fences, but every time I see the commercial, where she is giving Denzel what for, dripping in tears and mucous, I burst into tears.  If that isn't Oscar worthy, I don't know what is.  Viola, I'm rooting for you. (And YAY! they just announced her win!).

The Love/Hates:

Gobsmacked by Haley Berry. Love it from the clavicle down.  Completely disconcerted by the Foxy Brown wig, but admittedly, love the Versace gown. I'm wide open for theories and explanations...

Hate:  The train and the sheerness. She's nearly naked.

Both the fashion and music worlds were rocked on Monday, at the news of the tragic suicide of fashion designer L'Wren Scott, equally well known for her 13 year relationship with rock royalty, Mick Jagger.

L'Wren's collection was never a commercial success, but she dressed many of the world's most famous women and always garnered praise on the Red Carpet for her exquisite creations. L'Wren's loyal followers included close friends Nicole Kidman and Ellen Barkin, as well as Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Hendricks, Naomi Campbell, Penelope Cruz, Michelle Obama, Allison Williams, Jennifer Lopez and many others who appreciated her elegant, dramatic designs.

The long, lean, strong yet feminine lines of her clothes, took root in her childhood, when out of necessity, she sewed her own clothes to fit her 6'3 frame.  I have long admired her designs and wish I had at least tried one on.  She recently collaborated with Banana Republic on a collection for them.  As of this writing, I would guess there is not a piece to be found anywhere.

I am happy to say this is my 1000th post and as I write this, I will hit my 500,000th page view.  Thank you all so much for reading my Blog.  There are a zillion out there, and if you choose to read mine, I truly appreciate it.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Co-Hosts

NOW on to the big stuff, the 2013 Golden Globes Awards.  How completely refreshing and adorable were Tina Fey and Amy Poehler???  They absolutely killed it with a combination of wit, delivery and hi-jinx, those little minx.  Adored!

As always, trends become apparent immediately on the Red Carpet...don't these stylists compare notes?  Any way what did we see? An abundance or red, gold, black and nude, sheer, backless, cut outs, long sleeves and fishtails.

The Golden Globes is normally the most casual of the Big 3 (GG's, AA's and the Emmy's), but last night the ladies were dressed and tressed to kill. I can't wait for the AA's...what could possible top this?

There were far more spectacular looks and some really good ones than flat out disasters damn it , so for the sake of brevity I will do my Best and Worst looks only.

J'adore J'adore

Not the perfume, by Dior, (I've never smelled it)...the mesmerizing commercial starring Charlize Theron.  It was first aired in 2007 during the Holiday Season.and smartly, it was not retired.  Charlize looks drop dead gorgeous, returning home from a night on the town.  She struts and strips, discarding all the artifice and armour...gown, shoes, jewels in heaps in her wake. What matters??? Not much, just her perfume...and whoever awaits in the boudoir.  Now that's hot.
