DivaDebbi's Red Carpet Report Card: Emmy's 2016

Can I please start off by asking, who are these people???  I just went through 147 Yahoo Red Carpet photos and I have never seen half of them.  I feel a little bad about critiquing people whose identities are unknown to me, but it balanced out when two of them made the A List.

I was at a dinner party, so I missed all the Red Carpet hoopla as well as Jimmy Kimmel's opening monologue, but he seems to be doing just fine, affable, funny and relaxed.

Did everyone get the same memo or simply use the same stylist?  A preponderance  of white, black, cutouts galore and as if ripped from the Spring 2017 runways, some seriously pretty marigold yellow and leaf green dresses.

There was a lot of simplicity that was pretty, but did not excite, like the fabulous Emmy Rossum in a low cut white gown, slit to there and Julie Bowen in Lela Rose. Viola Davis also looked lovely in a fuchsia Marchesa, but lost crucial Red Carpet Olympic points for the ill fitting darts in the bust area.  Judith Light looked lovely and Maisie Williams was sweetly charming.

Misses for me that may win raves by others were: Taraji P. Henson, Tracee Ross, Julia Louis Dreyfuss (I LOVE JLD and howl at VEEP, but seriously, 5 consecutive wins??? I'm all for some term limits being put in place), condolences though, for the loss of her beloved father.  We feel ya Julia. Amazing that you attended. Sophia Vergara. Once,  just once, I'd die to see her in something that didn't look like it was painted on at an auto body shop.  Ditto, Laverne Coxe. The jury is still out on exactly what it is that Keri Russell was wearing.  I don't know who designed it and I can't tell if I love it or hate it, until I see it from all angles.

A few, who initially made the F List, moved up a notch compared to atrocities that followed. D Lister's include: Constance Zimmer, Maura Tierney, Ellie Kemper and Ariel Winter, who forgot to look in a full length mirror, before leaving the house.

I am delighted to put Sarah Paulson, Tina Fey, Claire Danes and Michelle Dockery on the A List, as they often disappoint. So without further ado, my DivaDebbi 2016 Emmy's Loves and Loathes:

A clean sweep

I think it would be a better idea if Red Carpet reporters wore nice, safe uniforms, do I hear a second???

Giuliana Rancic

Fresh from her Dancing With the Stars tryout

So my Lovelies, there you have it...who did I miss??? Who did you love and who did you loathe??? Shall we agree to disagree???

Lemmeknow...

Golden Globe Beauty: Kerry and Claire

The other night I sat spellbound watching the Golden Globes, all while tweeting and texting with other obsessed Glamazon's.  DivaDebbi readers know I always follow up the next day with my Red Carpet Report Cards.

Those who make my "A" Team have to not only be beautifully dressed but also  be flawlessly groomed.  This year both Kerry Washington and Claire Danes made my list.

Kerry's exquisite makeup was done by Lancome's Carola Gonzalez and is detailed above.  This is my idea of perfection!  It is also my favorite hairstyle on Kerry.  She has a bit of a high forehead and her hair on her hit show Scandal sometimes reads a little "newscaster" to me.  Bangs and silky locks are highlight her own natural beauty to a tee.

Kerry Washington 2013 Golden Globes

Both Kerry and Claire's her were styled with two of my favorite John Frieda products, that are always in my hair care arsenal; Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight and Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Flawless.  The third, Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hair Spray is now on my must have list.

Here is the how to to achieve these beautiful looks at home:

DivaDebbi's Red Carpet Report Card: Golden Globes 2013

I am happy to say this is my 1000th post and as I write this, I will hit my 500,000th page view.  Thank you all so much for reading my Blog.  There are a zillion out there, and if you choose to read mine, I truly appreciate it.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Co-Hosts

NOW on to the big stuff, the 2013 Golden Globes Awards.  How completely refreshing and adorable were Tina Fey and Amy Poehler???  They absolutely killed it with a combination of wit, delivery and hi-jinx, those little minx.  Adored!

As always, trends become apparent immediately on the Red Carpet...don't these stylists compare notes?  Any way what did we see? An abundance or red, gold, black and nude, sheer, backless, cut outs, long sleeves and fishtails.

The Golden Globes is normally the most casual of the Big 3 (GG's, AA's and the Emmy's), but last night the ladies were dressed and tressed to kill. I can't wait for the AA's...what could possible top this?

There were far more spectacular looks and some really good ones than flat out disasters damn it , so for the sake of brevity I will do my Best and Worst looks only.

Beauty Alert: Channeling Claire Danes in J. Mendel Spring 2013

Claire Danes/Emmy Contest

Gilles Mendel's show for J. Mendel is always a hot ticket at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.  With his Spring/Summer 2013 collection, Gilles celebrated his 10th year designing ready-to-wear, for his families venerable 130 year old fur house.

Since fur and leather is such an integral part of the house of J. Mendel, it's surprising when one of his Spring/Summer collections is every bit as beautiful as a Fall/Winter show.

This stunning collection of perfectly cut, draped and water color pleated chiffon's and jacquard dresses, was inspired by photographs of the Kawachi Fuji garden in Japan. There were also florals, gloriously saturated color and crisp, architectural shapes. Naturally, touches of fur highlighted several exits.

Homeland

Homeland

Polyvore asked us to create as set based on the Fall television show we are most looking forward to returning.  Naturally I made one based on my obsession, Showtime's Homeland.

This is in my opinion, the best written, most well acted ensemble series on T.V.  I was so besotted, that I literally harangued my friends to start watching.  Everybody I turned on to Homeland thanked me.

The cast is headlined by the extraordinary Claire Danes as a brilliant, dedicated, Bi-Polar C.I.A., who is of the belief that a returning decorated P.O.W. Sargent has been turned against the United States.   Sargent Brody is played by Damien Lewis a British actor who is gripping, as the mercurial soldier, presumed dead for the last eight years and now returned to adjust to his old life and family.

Both actors received Emmy nominations. Danes has already one a Golden Globe for her work as Carrie.  Also outstanding is Mandy Patankin as Carrie's boss and chief protector.

Season 2 begins on Sunday September 30th.  If you missed season 1, I implore you to get caught up in time.

You are very welcome...
