I am a style contributor for the website Women's Voices for Change and was delighted to kick off their Fashion Friday's series for Fall. The topic at hand was how to dress stylishly in the early part of Fall, when temperatures can still feel like summer.
I put together this Polyvore set for them to give my suggestions a visual compass. Below it are my suggestions.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a woman who prefers Summer clothes to Fall clothes . . . have you? There is something so luxe, sensuous, and cozy about the fabrics—buttery leathers, toasty alpacas, fur trims. Whisper-weight scarves woven from silk and cashmere are also a few of my favorite things. Though we may be buying them now, in reality it will be a couple of months until we are wearing them. Here are some suggestions on how to segue from Summer to Fall stylishly, because truly, you must pack away those white jeans. Smoke and mirrors? Maybe just a bit. But with just a little effort, you will look chic and polished this month. Soon enough we can start wearing all the good Fall stuff. . .

- Focus on Dark, Lightweight Separates: Navy cotton slim pants, black pencil skirts, printed dresses in shades of burgundy or green, will look great in September. Pair them with a crisp white blouse, an oversized silk tunic, or a light weight “sweat shirt” style sweater and add a chunky gold link necklace.
- Make the Cardigan your New Best Friend: Extend the life of every sleeveless sheath dress and blouse you own by teaming it with a cardigan. I’m crazy about the season-less ones available at Zara, and own at least a half a dozen. Add a scarf in rich hues. Dark sandals or oxfords are fine for now, but when it gets colder, switch to ankle boots.
- Retire the Summer Handbag: Nothing you carried this Summer will look right now. Two-tone bags are having a huge moment for Fall and will instantly update your look. Look for them in satchels, totes, frame and top handle bags.
- Be Neutral: The khaki, taupe, and gray shades that looked so effortless and cool this summer are also a natural for Fall. Simply pair them with dark accessories and you are good to go.
