Two from Target; Did they make the grade?

Maybelline's The Blushed Nudes
$14.99

I love clever marketing.  Some guru at Target, realized that if you give away generic drugs cheaply, making the back of the store pharmacy, a must-go-to destination for prescription pick-up, increased sales would follow. My 90 pill script may cost 10 bucks, but I've never left Target with less than a 3 digit receipt.

Thats's genius.

Cosmetics, inevitably are included in my haul.  Maybelline's The Blushed Nudes keeps popping up on a lot of beauty editorial and bloggers must-have drugstore beauty buy lists.

It certainly is nicely packaged, and upon closer inspection, the colors do appear soft and wearable. O.K....I finally caved.  In the cart it went.

Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara
$7.00

Long time DivaDebbi readers know my quest for a cheap and cheerful mascara is one long and winding road.  I am exclusively devoted to Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara, but it doesn't it's shelf life is short.  I thought maybe I could extend my latest tube, if I used it for my second coat only. What was needed was a decent first coat, provided by a decent drugstore find.

As always, the choice of mascara's is mind numbing. I noticed Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara mainly because it purports to increase volume by 400%. I also appreciated being able to see the brush, which was neither too skinny nor too fat.

So how did my choices fare???

I was disappointed with Maybelline's The Blushed Nudes.  The colors appear more matte under plastic.  Nearly everyone has a glimmer of shimmer, which I don't mind for a bit of highlighting under the brow or in the inner corner of my eye, but not what I want for my lid and crease.  I'm not sure the "nude" element is meant to mean barely pigmented, but no matter how much I layered, the effect was less than impressive...and then there was that glimmer of shimmer.

Overall, overhyped. C-

The Neutrogena Healthy Mascara was a better find. I prefer a very dark mascara and Carbon Black fits the bill to a tee.  I like the brush, which does a lovely job of covering lash to tip, but is not so unwieldy, that I couldn't reach the lashes near the inner corners. Clump factor? Zero.

Overall, impressive for the price. B.

Oh. And the Kitty Litter was just fine.  Two out of three ain't bad...

xox,
DD
