RoC Rocks!
When it comes to respected leaders in anti-aging beauty RoC Skincare, delivers visible results affordably -- no wonder it is beloved by women the world over.
One of the first skincare lines to incorporate Retinol, the long proven wrinkle fighter, RoC Skincare is frequently sited as a favorite by experts and Dermatologists.
I recently wrote about former beauty executive Andrea Q. Robinson's new book Toss the Gloss (http://divadebbi.blogspot.com/2014/04/book-review-toss-gloss.html. She too recommends RoC, siting RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Serum as a highly effective anti-aging tool for your arsenal. I love it too and frequently slather it on my face, neck, chest and hands.

Self Magazine's Best of Skincare List
Nice!
Had to share...

Real talk: It takes an arsenal of beauty products to be "no-makeup" pretty. Kind of daunting when you consider that more than 1,807 new ones were launched in the past year alone. So we enlisted 1,629 reader-testers to do the legwork for you.
Check out the12 best skincare winners that will help you achieve that 'no-makeup' look before summer. (Courtesy of C&C)
Best Gentle Cleanser:
Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Facial Cleanser, $5.50
At last, a truly egalitarian, good-for-all-skin-types face wash. The cucumber-scented gel formula left readers' skin "refreshed and not dry" and even "moisturized after use."
One raved: "The little beads made my skin feel so clean and exfoliated."
(Courtesy of Elizabeth Arden)
Best Antiaging Cleanser:
Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Treatment Boosting Cleanser, $39.60
If you like your cleanser with benefits, meet your holy grail. Pricey, yes, but you won't need a separate exfoliator—this foaming cream contains a one-two punch of sloughing bamboo beads and a dead cell-dissolving enzyme. Plus, there's shea butter and glycerin to soften skin.
"The slightly gritty texture was wonderful—I felt like it was really deep-cleaning my face," a tester enthused.
(Courtesy of Yes to Carrots)
Best Cleasing Wipes:
Yes to Carrots Fragrance Free Gentle Cleansing Wipes, $6
The busy (or sleepy, or um, just lazy) girl's lifesaver, these "soft, thick" fragrance-free towelettes "remove more dirt" and "cleanse my face better" than other wipes, two fans reported.
A plethora of soothing, nourishing natural extracts—aloe, chamomile, jasmine—even leave behind "a healthy, youthful glow."
(Courtesy of Clarins)Best Eye Treatment:
Clarins Extra-Firming Eye Lift Perfecting Serum, $61
This moisturizing fluid targets the stubborn eye area trifecta: dark circles, puffiness and crow's-feet—immediately by tightening with an oat sugar film and over time with circulation boosters like caffeine.
"I could see noticeable results and coworkers even made comments," one tester marveled. Another: "I have both dark circles and bags under my eyes, and the serum lessened the appearance of both."Monday, April 28, 2014

Book Review: Toss the Gloss
Toss the Gloss by Andrea Q. Robinson Adorably illustrated by Chelsea McLaren |
Oh, this is a fun and informative read! Originally, I pre-ordered Toss the Gloss through Amazon. When I realized the book version won't be out until mid May, I couldn't wait, so I had it whisked to my Kindle instead.
I might have erred, because this is a tome you will highlight and dog ear with turned back pages. I've bookmarked my Kindle version, but I'm not sure if there is an abridged way to pull them all back up... and there are plenty. BTW, I'm only 46% through.
Ms. Robinson has had a most illustrious career in the beauty industry, rising from a beauty editor at Vogue to the President of Ultima II, (she created, "The Nakeds" presaging Bobbi Brown by well over a decade), Chief Marketing Officer of Estee Lauder and President of both Ralph Lauren Fragances and Tom Ford Beauty.
It's pithy and brutally honest. No doubt the fur is flying behind closed doors as she spills the truth about the industry. Certain things that you will learn you can't unlearn; like the fact that the cosmetic giants that own multiple brands only invest in one set of chemists. Thus the breakthrough ingredient in a Lancôme skincare blockbuster (like Genefique) might later be used but remarketed in a "new" launch from L'Oreal, ie. the much less pricey Youth Code. Sure we all knew they shared the mascara lab, but even I hadn't made the leap to skincare.
Oh and ouch.

Stila Color Balm Lipstick
Stila Color Balm Lipstick $22 |
OMG this is a divine lipstick! I have been on the hunt for a new lipstick for about a month now. Nothing satisfied me. I can tell at a glance if the any of the shades in palette line up are in my wheel house. Perfumed lipsticks are out and I have found the new spate of liquid lipsticks with sponge tipped applicators to be both dry and tacky.
Stila Color Balm Lipstick is a gorgeous hybrid between a full pigment lipstick and and a rich emollient balm. It is infused with peppermint oil which feels just the slightest bit tingly. The organic sunflower based peptides leaves the lips feeling smooth and hydrated and as a result, fuller looking.
What's not to love???

Flashback Friday: Skinn Cosmetics Eyeshadow
Skinn Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palette $32 |
I was unfamiliar with the brand and Dimitri, though they both make frequent appearances on HSN. Dimitri was a well known makeup artist for many years before starting his own company.
When he did, his goal was to combine luxurious products with rich anti-aging collagen boosting peptides--good plan! It's such a no-brainer to combine the two, it's almost hard to conceive it's not the norm, though we are getting there.

Review: Olay Regenerist Luminous Brightening Cleanser
Olay Regenerist Luminous Brightening Cleanser $9.99 or thereabout |
Olay Regenerist Luminous Brightening Cream Cleanser was flitting around in my "to try" consciousness. I have now used up three tubes of my beloved Hada Labo Cleanser and was teetering on the edge of curiosity and laziness. ( Hada Labo requires a trip to Ulta.)
Laziness won.

Mineral Fusion Lip Gloss
Mineral Fusion Lip Gloss $11.99 at Whole Foods |
Oh my. I just discovered a whole new world of beauty to discover at Whole Foods.
I've always liked Whole Foods, but the one closest to me is in a mall. I have google searched "Mall Phobia" before...surely it must qualify to be entered into the diagnostic manual for psychological disorders and I can't be the only one who suffers from it.
It has something to do with the fear of never finding my car or the exit again...
Nonetheless, a new Whole Foods was recently built near me and it is blissfully sleek, large and free standing. Hallelujah.
I also discovered their two beauty aisles gleaming with natural lotions, potions and cosmetics. I've been looking for a new lipstick lately and surprisingly, I couldn't find a single one at two Sephora's or CVS that appealed.
The entire display for Mineral Fusion Cosmetics looked tempting. All of the colors are gorgeous neutrals that look like they would flatter everyone. I took a shot and selected "Dazzle" a rich, rosy nude with a hint of shimmer (second from left above.)

Holy Grail Alert: L'Oreal Lash Out Butterfly Mascara
L'Oreal's Lash Out Butterfly Macara 11.99 at CVS in Greenwich 8.99 in Tulsa |
OMG!!! The Cheap & Cheerful mascara of my dreams is finally among us.
L'Oreal Lash Out Butterfly has been on my radar for a couple of months. I first read about it on my friend Kari from Fab Over Forty's blog. Kari has great lashes and prefers premium mascaras. She raved about L'Oreal Lash Out Butterfly and as she sagely pointed out, Lancome owns and creates L'Oreal products, so truly, how bad could it be?
I spied it at CVS but held off since I still had quite a cache of mascaras to run through first. Then sister Loren purchased it and loved it as well; she couldn't wait to tell me she had officially broken up with Benefit's They're Real Mascara.

I've said it before and I will say it again, if I could have a Bump-It surgically implanted to the back of my head I would. Ever since I saw the original Bonnie & Clyde with Faye Dunaway, at the peak of her beauty, I've been obsessed with a little height at the crown of the hair.

Dr. Fredric Brandt: The Face Behind the Face
Dr. Fredric Brandt Injector to the Stars |
Two weeks ago, the NY Times ran an article about celebrity dermatologist Dr. Frederic Brandt, entitled, "The Man Behind the Face". Frankly, I have a bit of trouble getting past, "the Face Behind the Face".
Dr. Brandt, 64, freely admits that he injects himself with all the tools in his anti-aging arsenal that he uses on patients; Botox, Restalyne, Juvaderm, Perlane and Voluma.
Asked about his own use of fillers and whether or not he thinks he is over zealous, Dr. Brandt said,“I’ve been kind of a pioneer in pushing the limits to see how things work and what the look would be,” “Would I change anything I’ve done? I might not have used as much Botox, because you don’t want to look quite as frozen” (as a mackerel.)

Vita Liberata Luxury Tan Lotion
Vita Liberata Luxury Tan Lotion 5.07 oz. $54 |
First, that it is possible that there is a self tanner on the market that I didn't know about. Second, that the one I never knew about, purportedly lasts from 2-3 WEEKS!
I was at Sephora yesterday making a return. In a hurry, I had bought a very pretty Giorgio Armani lipstick. What I hadn't anticipated was the heavy unpalatable perfume taste.
Just NO.
While I was returning it, the cashier gave the woman ahead of me sample of Vita Liberata Luxury Tan Lotion and mentioned how long lasting it is intended to be.
Ummm, me next please!!!

Review: Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster
Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster $30 (lasts about 3 mos.) |
I love beauty product innovations and the appreciate all the effort that goes into taking a great idea and bringing into market. The very first company to create a self tanning product was Coppertone, with the introduction of "QT" for Quick Tan back in the 60's.
Problem was, the tan was more of a butternut squash hue, permanently staining a generation of sunless tanners would be's, with a fear of a tans in a can.
My first self tanning experience was with Clarins Self Tanning Milk with SPF 6. It did not have a harsh chemical smell and it left me golden. I used it for years and I'm not quite sure why I stopped...perhaps it was when the cheap and cheerful mass products like Jergens Natural Glow were introduced.
Clarins newest launch, Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster should prove to be a game changer--and will definitely be imitated. I immediately went to Sephora to sample it, but they were eagerly awaiting it's arrival as well.

Lancome Loves Lupita
Lupita Nyong’o
New Lancôme Ambassadress
And don't we all??? I can't remember the last time I was charmed by any newcomer on the Red Carpet as much as Lupita. Her appearances at the awards trifecta-Golden Globes, Emmy's and Academy Awards left Lupita fans breathless, me among them.
It was only a matter of moments before one of the the leading luxury beauty or fashion brands signed her as an Ambassadress. Kudos to Lancome for winning the race.
Lupita said, "I am truly honored to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history that I have always loved. I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman's freedom to be herself.”

Sonia Kushak Satin Luxe Lipcolor
Sonia Kushak Satin Luxe Lipcolor $9.99 |
I love an excuse for a good Target run. Seasonal allergy sufferers take note: Target's generic Claritin, is one of the best bargain's on the planet. I picked up a 4 mos. supply of 120 Loratadine tablets for $13.59--compare that with Claritin's 24 tablets for $19.99. I'm not one to pinch pennies, but this is just too good not to travel for.
Once there, I do a ridiculous amount of damage. Believe me, Tarzshay never loses a dime on me. I always like to check out Sonia Kashuk Beauty. I think she does a knock out job of creating beautifully packaged, well priced products in a Bobbi Brownesque palette.
