L'Wren Scott

L'Wren Scott by divadebbi

Both the fashion and music worlds were rocked on Monday, at the news of the tragic suicide of fashion designer L'Wren Scott, equally well known for her 13 year relationship with rock royalty, Mick Jagger.

L'Wren's collection was never a commercial success, but she dressed many of the world's most famous women and always garnered praise on the Red Carpet for her exquisite creations. L'Wren's loyal followers included close friends Nicole Kidman and Ellen Barkin, as well as Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Hendricks, Naomi Campbell, Penelope Cruz, Michelle Obama, Allison Williams, Jennifer Lopez and many others who appreciated her elegant, dramatic designs.

The long, lean, strong yet feminine lines of her clothes, took root in her childhood, when out of necessity, she sewed her own clothes to fit her 6'3 frame.  I have long admired her designs and wish I had at least tried one on.  She recently collaborated with Banana Republic on a collection for them.  As of this writing, I would guess there is not a piece to be found anywhere.

She was born Laura "Luanne" Bambrough, to adoptive Mormon parents in Roy Utah.  In true, "Holly Golightly" style, her glamorous life began at 18, when she went to Paris to model for Chanel and changed her name to L'Wren Scott. Her life was filled with luxury, fame, excitement and seemingly all the world had to offer, but was also reportedly grounded by friends and family of the pair.

Sadly, L'Wren's  business had been failing and she did not show a fall collection in NY or London last month, due to financial pressures. Despite the obvious, it has been said that she did not want to accept financial help from Jagger.  It is also rumored that he had recently broken off the relationship, though it was denied through his press office and he has returned to NY from the Rolling Stones tour in Australia.

The fashion world still mourns the loss of the extraordinary Alexander McQueen. L'Wren's passing dims another light in the elite world of design. Suicide always seems unfathomable to those of us of healthy mind, and it is tragic to think that L'Wren could not see a brighter path for herself.

Condolences to Mick Jagger, their friends, family and those who knew and loved her.

Rest in Peace, lovely L'Wren...
