An American First Lady

An American First Lady

When ever their is a major event that involves fashion, Polyvore holds a contest to see what we fashionista's might dream up for stars of the Red Carpet.

All eyes will of course me on the First Lady tomorrow night, as she whisks among the 10 or so, Inaugural Balls that will be in full swing all over D.C. tomorrow night.

I was not a big fan of Mrs. Obama's style early on in her husband's Presidency.  Greatly influenced by her then stylist Ikram Goldman, the owner of Ultimo in Chicago, I thought Mrs. Obama made some egregious fashion choices.

I think a turning point for Mrs. Obama, was her collaboration with Naeem Khan, back in November of 2009.  The occasion was the first official State Dinner at the White House, honoring the Prime Minister of India and his wife.

Resplendent in a strapless gold chiffon gown, with an overlay of sterling silver sequins, matching chiffon stole, an arm full of gold bangles, important earrings and a glamorous chignon, it was the first time the First Lady truly looked magnificent.

Once she and Ms. Bikram parted ways and Mrs. Obama truly understood the power of being able to have the best in the world create especially for her, Michelle Obama has never looked back or looked better.

The fashion set I created above is an Elie Saab gown that I think would look particularly stunning at the Inaugural Ball.  We have all seen Mrs. Obama's beautifully toned arms on many occasions.   This dress quietly exhibits the best of the trends we saw on the Red Carpet at the Golden Globes; vibrant color, shimmer, sheer panels and long sleeves.

Besides Mr. Saab, all of the accessories in this set are also created by American designers, who Mrs. Obama graciously support. (Bag by Marchesa,  shoes by Stuart Weitzman, Earrings by Andrea Fohrman.)

I'm excited to see whom she chooses to wear.  Will Jason Wu get a round 2?  We will just have to tune in and find out.  This time around, I already know I will be wowed.

God Bless America.
