Love and Lashes

On Saturday evening, I had the great pleasure of being a guest at a most extraordinary wedding.  Over the years, I have had the privilege of attending some spectacular benefits, events, and celebrations.  Of one thing I can be sure, nothing can or will match the beauty of the union of Taylor Sites and Thomas Grothe, at the legendary Frick Museum, (one of the pre-eminent small art museums in the Country).  In a word?  Spectac. So, how does a Girl who wouldn't scoot out for a quart of milk without full maquillage notch up for an important event???  Slim pickings...a pretty dress, a decent blow out and false lashes.  I have already 'fessed up that D.I.Y. lashes are not within my pervue. I thought I recalled that the Benefit Brow Bar at Bloomingdales in White Plains, where I have my brows groomed, also applies lashes and extensions. I also have a sweet spot for any retail establishment that does not require me to enter a mall.  Bloomies it was.

I met with Sarah Smith, Benefit Cosmetics Business Manager, who walked me through my lash options.   Would I be willing to try their newest, most dramatic offering Pin-Up Lash? 

Sure.  Bring 'em on.  I also asked Sarah to give me step by step instructions, just in case I ever wanted to try my hand solo.  Here's what I learned:

1)  It's best to take them out of the package and bend them together to soften the strip.
2)  Leave a pearl size amount of lash glue on a dry surface to breath for a few moments
3)  Curl the lash strips around your forefingers to mimic the lash line
4)  Apply one coat of mascara so the lashes will grip (Sarah used my new fave "They're Real")
5)  Most lash strips will require trimming on the ends, measure and snip the overhang with a sharp scissor
6)  Use a thin applicator, like a headless Q-Tip and apply the adhesive along the lash line in a back and forth
     motion
7)  Let it settle for about 30 seconds
8)  Start by applying the lash strip in the center and pressing firmly, then gently move to the inner and outer 
     corners and press gently.
9)  Voila!  Pin-Up Lashes:

These were definitely the most glam lashes I have ever had applied, but then again this was the most glam party I might ever attend.  Despite my urge to give them a haircut once I got home. I left them intact.

Sarah said they could be used again, but then they are strictly D.I.Y. I have another event this weekend, so I will follow Sarah's instructions and hope for the best...I'll keep you posted.

I think we are all still floating! Such a flawless night, brimming with happiness and hope.  To Mr. and Mrs. Grothe, the world is your oyster and your family and friends have all the confidence that yours is a love everlasting.
