Psssst...Which Dry Shampoo Actually Works?

I've been toying with the idea of trying a dry shampoo for awhile.  If I could save one day a week of washing, that's nearly two months less wear and tear on my color.  As well, since I have been wearing my hair straighter, it actually looks better with a little wear and tear.  The original entrant in the market was a product called Pssst, about a zillion years ago. Basically you were spraying Johnson's Baby Powder in your hair...good luck with that,  particularly  if you are a brunette.  I'm sure it's still available  somewhere on the Internet, but not at my local CVS.  Neither is TRESemme's Fresh Start or Rene Furterer's Nutria.   I received a $20 off coupon from Sephora recently...it's one of the perks of being a V.I.B. Insider  You too can have that privilege--all you have to do is spend a small fortune  at Sephora each year.  Why not see if I could use my found money on a dry shampoo???

Sephora does not have a huge array of hair products, but what they do carry is choice.  Still I was surprised Oscar Blandi's dry shampoo was the only offering.  Two things about it though appealed to me immediately:  First,  that it acts as a "volumizer", second that it is "clear".   Here is Oscar Blandi's Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray ($21) is described on Sephora's website:

What it is:

A dry shampoo that sprays on clear, making it ideal for all hair colors
What it does:

No time to shampoo? No problem! Clear the way for the newest innovation in dry shampoo: Pronto Dry Shampoo Invisible sprays on clear, which means it's completely undetectable in the hair and is ideal for all hair color. When applied, it instantly boosts volume and cleanses the hair without water. Ingredients such as gentle starches absorb excess oil and product build-up, while vitamin E and wheat proteins strengthen and protect the hair shaft. The end result is hair that looks and feels freshly shampooed, without a trace of residue.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:

- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- GMOs
- Triclosan

I was surprised to see that out of hundreds of reviews, this promising sounding product only snagged 3 out of 5 stars.  Closer review revealed something interesting:  people either raved (5 stars) or raged (1 star),  with many likening the smell to Lemon Pledge.  Alrighty then...

After the wonderful Christopher at Warren Tricomi Greenwich does his magic on my hair, I like to let the color settle in by holding off as long as I can, before the first washing.  This morning my hair was not looking limp, and ideally needed to be washed.  Great!!!  Perfect for a dry run!

As directed, I held the can 6-8 inches from my hair and sprayed, focusing on the roots.  I also sprayed the hair at the nape of my neck.  I had no issue with the smell, whatsoever.  My hair instantly perked up and felt cleaner.  I thought it was 100% effective at reviving my hair and gave me one more good hair day, boosting my roots and my confidence,  pronto.

*****.   That would be a rave.  Tuck this under the sink with the Johnson's Baby Powder... Clearly, the Oscar Blandi is the way to go...

UPDATE:  I must have had the sniffles the morning I used this product.  HOLY LEMON GROVE!!!
it does smell like Pledge!!!  I will vouch for its effectiveness, but the next time I use it, I will be doing it with my head out the window.

  2. Its a goodie Q.!
Apparently, this clear formulation is new, which I think must be an improvement over the old formula and his competitors. I have also read that top stylists use this simply to boost volume, particularly at the roots at photo shoots and on their celeb clients.
