The Week That Was

Unless you have been cave dwelling, you know that last night concluded  Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week  in N.Y.   As usual it was  a whirlwind.  It kicked off unofficially, Last Friday night, as all of N.Y. turned into a cocktail carnival, in celebration of the second installment of Fashion's Night Out.   FNO, was the brain child of  Vogue Editor, Anna Wintour,  who wanted to give a much needed boost,  to the Fashion and Beauty industry.  It was a brilliant spark, and a resounding success...Naturally it was back and better than ever, with hundreds of stores participating.   We hit the Meat Packing District, which was in full throttle, where I saw a Jimmy Choo boot at Jeffrey's,  that was taller than most fifth graders...a great New York night, destined to be an annual event.

The other big story was, "the move".   After 18 years at Bryant Park, (conveniently, a lip gloss throw from the Garment Center),  the "tents" that house Fashion Week, were relocated uptown to Lincoln Center.   This herculean effort, by IMG International, led by my friend, Peter Levy SVP and Managing Director of Global Fashion,  is a smashing success.  Something about the theatre of fashion, in close proximity to the great arts that preside at Lincoln Center felt like a glorious, natural fit.  It was sleek, roomy, high tech and even architectural.  One doesn't normally associate glass walls and trees with the tents, yet beautiful, outdoor presentation spaces were created for designers who wished to show their collections in different venues.  The V.I.P areas, always have a modern vibe.  At LC, they are even more spacious.  Iman, who is launching her own line of home furnishings, decorated the Mercedes-Benz suite with African inspired prints, textiles and furnishings.  It was exotic and inviting.  The Amex Skybox was cool and clubby with espresso furnishings and silver accents.  It's always a blast to have the privilege of hanging with Peter's wife, Linda Levy, knowing my arse just sat where J.Lo's did...Linda, is always the most gracious host, making everyone feel welcome.

No matter how many times I have been to the shows, I never get jaded.  When the house lights go up, (and then you can really see which stars are studding the front row),  it is a sure shot of adrenaline.  One of the best shows of the week for people watching  ( and some fantastic clothes, inspired by Isadora Duncan),  is always  Diane von Furstenberg's.   She is a talented designer, President of the CFDA and wife of Barry Diller.  Backstage, before the show, we saw her directing her models to,  "Be Bold, Be Beautiful and Be Goddesses".   Despite her diminutive size, she epitomized all these things.  Besides the usual powerhouse editors, Anna Wintour, Glenda Bailey, Linda Wells, etc.. I spotted Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen, Blake Lively, Estelle, Peaches Geldorf, Molly Sims, Rachel Bilson, Nicky Hilton  and Sarah Jessica Parker...gotta love it ,

And I do.

  2. Thanks Barb!
I know you got to experience the "tents" firsthand...what did you think? I think the new venue at LC represents us globally, as a the fashion power house, in fitting style.
