REALLY Awful Plastic Surgery

I like to think of myself as a cultured person: I appreciate good books, film, theatre, art, architecture, interior design, fashion, history and travelling.  I also have a distinctly low brow side that enjoys the Real Housewife franchises (New York and Beverly Hills) and I regularly check in with a website called Awful Plastic Surgery.  Sometimes they feature aging Porn or current Reality "stars" that I didn't know existed.   But every now and then, you get to view a more mainstream calamity...like Suzanne Somers above.  I ask you Girls...Did you evah???
Don't get me wrong---I'm all for the tasteful tweak. Think of Diane Sawyer, Jaclyn Smith, Meryl Streep, Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon, Jane Seymour and Helen Mirren.  Beautiful then and beautiful still and you can be sure, they have all had work.  The difference is, that they still look like themselves.  None of them are overblown with fillers or cheek implants like bulimic chipmunks.  All have resisted the urge to trade their lips in for link sausages.  Their faces move and emote...just like live humans.  It's all good.

So what exactly did Suzanne Somers do???  S.S. reportedly had a "Stem Cell Facelift"  I had no clue what that actually was so I did a little Googling around.  The interesting thing is that it is not a "facelift" at all, or not one that requires cutting or general anesthesia, anyway.

Here is some more information that I copied from the website of Vincent Giampapa, MD, FACS, who has been performing this procedure for over four years.

Adult Stem Cells, are now known to be a source for producing other “hormone-like” substances to enhance both skin quality and the underlying subcutaneous- fatty tissues of the cheeks, the mid face and the skin in general.  The result is a long-term marked improvement that enhances both skin quality as well as the underlying youthful contours of the face.

The procedure is accomplished under local anesthesia in about an hour in the office setting.  This is a procedure that avoids the need for a hospital trip and general anesthesia.  Recovery time takes about a week.  At the end of this time, light powder and makeup is easily applied, and the results document an extremely natural, full rested facial contour.

The “Stem Cell Facelift” may also eliminate the need for ongoing facial “filler” injections like Restylane, Juvederm and the other hyaluronic acid fillers.  The improvement of the skin frequently eliminates the need for Botox for many patients as well.

On paper, it doesn't sound bad...but if S.S's results are typical, I think it may take more time to get the Silly Putty kinks out.  This gives a whole new meaning to "Plastic" Surgery...no???

  2. Sadly JoElla it is!
This picture was a still from a talk show she appeared on after the procedure in Canada. I don't know whether or not the issue of her face was discussed. Really makes you think twice about some of this stuff!

  3. To clarify: that sounded like the procedure was done in Canada. It was alledgedly performed somewhere in Europe. She was a guest on a Canadian talkshow, and this is a still from that appearance.

  6. O.M.G. I'm surprised that she even went out in public! I would be tempted to go into seclusion if that was me. What about the facial exercise device that she sells for a few hundred dollars on her site that she claims she uses to keep beautiful!?! If I did such a thing to myself I believe my granddaughter would be frightened to be with me.

  7. This is when plastic surgery is still on its dark ages. You won't see this kind of results when you choose to undergo surgery nowadays.
